Deer Oaks Mental Health Associates Geropsychology Programs provide comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological services to patients/residents of long-term care (nursing homes) and rehabilitation facilities throughout the United States. Deer Oaks serves primarily geriatric clients ranging in age from 65 to 100 years; however, younger patients with disabilities and/or long-term psychiatric histories are also treated. Experience
Paul Alan Boskind, PHD is President/CEO and Owner of Deer Oaks EAP Services, LLC. Dr. Boskind founded Deer Oaks EAP in 1992 and served as its sole practitioner. Within a year, Dr. Boskind had hired Deer Oaks’ first full-time clinical employee, an office manager, and developed a network of mental health subcontractors eager to work with him. By 1995, Deer Oaks was incorporated and had grown to three clinical offices. One year later, Deer Oaks was awarded the behavioral health carve-out for HMO Blue in San Antonio and Austin.
Through Dr. Boskind’s strategic planning, Deer Oaks has grown into a thriving stand-alone provider of high-quality Employee Assistance, Work- Life, and Wellness services. Deer Oaks currently serves approximately one million employees and their dependents across more than 500 private and public employer groups throughout the nation. Dr. Boskind’s over 18 years of experience in the EAP field and proven experience in providing EAP oversight, management, and short-term counseling has ensured Deer Oaks’ growth and continued success. Dr. Boskind continues to provide direction and guidance in operational, administrative and financial matters, quality assurance and customer service.

June Maxfeldt, PHR, Chief Business Officer, joined Deer Oaks in 1998 and is responsible for the oversight of human resources, business administration, contract compliance, and administrative operations. With more than 20 years of experience in health care administration, EAP account management, human resources, quality assurance, and behavioral health oversight, her strong commitment to customer services ensures a responsive approach to any issue that could lead to concern or grievance. Her expertise and knowledge of employee relations, health insurance, mental health issues, ADA, and other employer legal issues, provide assistance with employee assistance program development, services and support to the employer groups human resource and risk management departments.

Experience
Chief Clinical Officer, Deborah Theis, PhD, DOT SAP, joined Deer Oaks in 1998. Dr. Theis is a Licensed Psychologist with 15 years of experience providing assessments and counseling for individuals, families, and groups. She is responsible for the supervision and clinical oversight of all Deer Oaks operations in the Houston area, as well as nationwide. Dr. Theis received her PhD in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University in College Station. She has worked in a variety of positions of ever increasing levels of responsibility during her years here at Deer Oaks. She has worked in multiple levels of care, from acute care to outpatient private practice. Her areas of professional experience include: children, adolescents, families, adults and substance abuse.

Experience
Laura Davies has served as Chief Financial Officer of Deer Oaks – A Behavioral Health Organization since 2003. She brings almost 30 years of finance, treasury management and accounting experience to Deer Oaks and she oversees all accounting, finance and treasury functions.
Laura previously served as Chief Financial Officer of an international shortline railroad company. During her tenure with this high growth, acquisition-oriented company, Laura was responsible for all finance, treasury management, investor relations and accounting functions. Laura also served on the board of directors and was integrally involved in the company’s initial public offering, subsequent public equity offerings, several private placements of debt and equity and numerous syndicated bank transactions. Prior to the railroad company, Laura served as an Audit Manager with an international public accounting firm.

Experience
Dean Paret, PhD, SAP, joined the Deer Oaks team in July 2008. He is responsible for the compliance and quality assurance of Deer Oaks programs and services provided to all EAP clients. Dr. Paret is well-respected within the mental health field having served on a number of professional organizations and committees, including the American Psychological Association, the Southwest Regional Provider Advisory Group, and the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. Although experience as a SAP Provider is recent (Feb. 2009), Dr. Paret has extensive drug and alcohol counseling experience and is a member of NAADAC (National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors).
Doris Walker
Director of Billing and Collections

Experience
Doris Walker, Director of Billing and Collections started with Deer Oaks in March 1999. She brings almost 20 years of medical insurance and billing expertise to Deer Oaks and manages one of the company’s largest administrative departments. She oversees all billing, payment posting, front-end collections and accounts receivable. Doris is also an expert in the state-of-the-art software medical billing system utilized by Deer Oaks for over 10 years.
Prior to Deer Oaks, Doris worked in other healthcare environments as a medical billing specialist and service coordinator.
Marilyn Barrera
Director of EAP Operations

Experience
Marilyn Barerra, Director of EAP Operations, joined Deer Oaks in 1996. She is responsible for the oversight and administrative management of all Deer Oaks’ staff offices. She has been instrumental in the expansion of Deer Oaks, developing and managing new offices throughout the country, as well as providing staff training and heading the implementation of new and current business contracts. Ms. Barrera also serves as Account Manager for many of Deer Oaks’ South Texas EAP accounts.

Alicia Barrera is Director of EAP Account Management for Deer Oaks EAP Services and a member of the firm’s management team. Alicia has over 15 years of experience in the EAP & Work/Life industry. She is a proven business development professional with extensive experience in both sales and account management. She has provided EAP program implementation, contract compliance initiatives, customer service, and contract management services to leading organizations in many industries nationwide.
As Director of EAP Account Management, Alicia manages key accounts and establishes partnerships to help drive corporate initiatives. She also serves as a consultant to client organizations and to supervisors and managers to assist them in increasing utilization, coordinating benefits, and improving productivity and healthy functioning in the workplace. She also has expertise in working with cultural diversity issues, which enables her to work closely with client HR departments to help them address issues such as diversity, harassment, team building, workplace violence, and stress management.

Elaine Traylor, PhD, SAP, is Regional EAP Director for Deer Oaks EAP Services and a Licensed Psychologist. She joined Deer Oaks in 2003 and serves as the Regional EAP Director to local EAP accounts, as well as conducts individual/couples/family and group counseling with employees and their dependents. Dr. Traylor manages all referrals for mandatory substance abuse cases as a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) according to the Department of Transportation Guidelines. She also responds to employer requests for critical incident debriefing and management. Dr. Traylor received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Texas. She works with a wide range of counseling concerns, such as stress management, life transitions, communication skills, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, and substance abuse/ dependence. In addition, she has facilitated seminars/workshops on several different issues related to organizational behavior, management, and mental health. |
